On April 2, 2025, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS) released an updated version of Form I-9 to align with statutory language. This version, dated “01/20/25,” expires on May 31, 2027.

In E-Verify and E-Verify+, starting April 3, 2025, the employment status option is now “An alien authorized to work.” Employers must ensure consistency between employee attestations on Form I-9 and selections in E-Verify, even if older editions use different terms.
Employers can continue using prior versions until their listed expiration dates, but should integrate the new edition into their verification processes by July 31, 2026.
