Does your current PPE fit all employees correctly?

As of January 13, 2025, OSHA requires that personal protective equipment (PPE) be properly fitted to each individual worker in the construction industry. This new regulation aims to address concerns about the ineffectiveness of ill-fitting PPE in protecting workers and enhance overall workplace safety.

Employers are responsible for ensuring that all PPE provided to employees fits properly, regardless of whether the equipment is supplied by the employer or the employee. Properly fitted PPE minimizes workplace injuries and ensures compliance with OSHA standards.

The estimated average cost per employee to ensure compliance with the new rule is $52. Increased OSHA penalties for noncompliant employers takes effect January 16, 2025.

Steps you can take to ensure your companies complianceincludes:

-         Review your practices for issuing PPE

-         Conduct a fit assessment for all employees and document the process

-         Train employees on the importance of properly fitted PPE
